NY-Style Hot Dogs

For the onion sauce:
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. ketchup
  • 1 tsp. hot sauce
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, sauté onions until they’re soft, roughly 5 minutes.
  2. Add the honey, chili powder, and cinnamon and continue to sauté until the flavors are fragrant.
  3. Add the water, ketchup, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir and bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 1–15 minutes or until the sauce is bubbly and thickened. Allow the sauce to cool, covered, in the refrigerator.
  4. Meanwhile, cook your hotdogs according to the package directions.
  5. Build your hot dogs and enjoy!
