NY-Style Hot Dogs
Ingredients
- Scott Pete Wieners & Franks
- hot dog buns
- Optional: spicy brown mustard & sauerkraut
For the onion sauce:
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 c. water
- 1/4 c. ketchup
- 1 tsp. hot sauce
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
Directions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, sauté onions until they’re soft, roughly 5 minutes.
- Add the honey, chili powder, and cinnamon and continue to sauté until the flavors are fragrant.
- Add the water, ketchup, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir and bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 1–15 minutes or until the sauce is bubbly and thickened. Allow the sauce to cool, covered, in the refrigerator.
- Meanwhile, cook your hotdogs according to the package directions.
- Build your hot dogs and enjoy!
